Posts with comments disabled will be deleted (as per the rules of this comm). This is expecially true if they are posts by people who come into a community simply to troll and insult the members (and in rather a hypocritical fashion, might I add, considering the compression on your last usericon).

This is a community for book icons. This is not a ratings community, a "we only accept you if you can jump through hoops for us" icon community, or a place where people come to be insulted. It is just a place to post book icons, and if you feel the inexplicable need to critique something, be constructive about it.

And if you're a coward and keep deleting your inflammatory posts and disabling comments, then I guess that's what the ban tool was made for.

edit: and I just said the exact same thing as Connie :)

I disbaled comments to end the subject and issue an apology. That didn't work out so well.

I didn't realize no comment posts would be deleted.

And I'm sorry I said anything about the abundance of shitty icons icons I don't like.

And note the icon. *sighs* My little haven has been demolished. Sniffle, sniffle.

The rules are very clearly stated on the user info. The combination here of "fuck it" icon and struck out text has completely removed any impulse of mine to give you a "second chance". If Jazzy's not banned you yet, I will. Bye.

[identity profile] necroscopics.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't bother. I wouldn't want to trouble you. I'm removing myself.

But hey! I did make an icon!
And it's better than quite a few I've seen (although I've seen some sweet ones on here and I've commented to those people)

One day when I write a book and have it published, that'll be on the title page, and then it will belong in this community!

[identity profile] raidingsporkger.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I was wondering why you don't make icons like the one you suggested? Don't complain about other peoples' icon, but make none of your own. The icon you described would take a lot of time and effort to get it just right. When I make icons, I do it because I'm bored, so mine are not fantastic or elaborate. I'm not trying to start anything here, I am just saying that you should put your money where your mouth is...teehee, I've always wanted to use that phrase :D

[identity profile] necroscopics.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no money. Thanks for rubbing that in.

::cries to mr. cheeseburger-head::

oh sorry...well, there you go, beggars can't be chosers!

HaHa!

um..is Mr. CheeseburgerHead some sort of comfort food/thing for you? *scratches head*

Hasn't there been enough warning? What constitutes a ban? It's obvious nothing about it is sincere.

[personal profile] conuly 2005-04-26 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
This constitutes a ban, actually.

Jazzy and I posted at the same time. I posted mostly because I wanted a chance to vent (sorry) while reviewing the comments on the most recent comments page. I hadn't seen them all, and figured I ought to give the whole thing consideration. I was willing to give the guy a second chance until he posted his comment here, that was... no. And Jazzy apparently agreed.

[personal profile] conuly 2005-04-26 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
This meaning "his last comment" not YOUR comment, since you're wonderful and not trollish.

[identity profile] livinginoctober.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Me? Thank you!

I love seeing mods that actually are prevalent in the community and really care about the people in it.

You both are appreciated.

And vent away! I enjoy reading it.

[personal profile] conuly 2005-04-26 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Why, thank you :)

I do care about the comm, but I try not to stifle discussion. Youse guys were responding to him very well, I was impressed - but not enough to keep him around after that last comment. Who the hell does that? That's like saying "I'm sorry I didn't realize you were so sensitive about being fat"!

[identity profile] talkingpotato.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't get why someone would take that much time out of their day to make a post like that.. and then take even more time to make sure everyone feels like trash.
They said someting about 'it beats packing'.. I hope that trolling distracted him enough to forget something important *cackles* :)

[identity profile] tabbyclaw.livejournal.com 2005-04-27 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Kind of comforting and sad at the same time, isn't it? With all the horrible problems in the world, we live in a society where we have so comparatively few worries that people have the time to scream for hours on end about how worthless everyone else is because their ten thousand pixels aren't up to his exacting standards.

[identity profile] talkingpotato.livejournal.com 2005-04-27 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
heeh that's so true!

Ah well it's all over now :-) I think.. watch me get hate email :-D

It's nice to have mods who actually moderate, pay attention and do something. Kudos.

Hmm... I've only been watching this community for the past week or so and I've somehow managed to miss whatever post(s?) was the source of this controversy. I do, however, have a small concern about the contents of this post.

In the LJ FAQ one finds the following question. I'm including with it part of the answer:

Can I cross-post an entry in multiple journals or communities? (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=198)
* You can post the full entry in one journal or community and then link directly to that entry from the other journals or communities. When using this method, you may want to disable comments on all entries but the original to ensure that all comments are made in the same place.
Would it be acceptable to make a post to this community with comments turned off under the specific circumstances mentioned in that FAQ answer, or is the rule of leaving comments on all the time an absolute rule?

[identity profile] aquamarcia.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a perfect explanation of the restriction, thanks!

[personal profile] conuly 2005-04-27 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Often when people disable comments, they're doing it because they think that'll make their entries harder to delete. It doesn't, but they keep trying....

If your entry is ontopic and not trollish, and you disabled comments, I'd just comment in your journal and tell you to enable them*. However, if you *consistently* disable comments, then I'd probably resort to deleting-on-sight. If you want people to comment elsewhere, the best way to do that is to just add a link to your journal.

*Jazzy might not. Jazzy's usually nicer than I am, though, so who knows?

[identity profile] next-bold-move.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I know this is totally off-topic, sorry. Can you tell me where your icon pic came from?

[identity profile] next-bold-move.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oddly, I already had an icon I got from a friend in another community. People ask me about it whenever I use it.

It will be nice to be able to give proper credit. Do you know the artist?

[identity profile] sarrabellum.livejournal.com 2005-04-27 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry if I, in any way, fed the troll. I was just so appalled at the first post trashing everyone here, and then at the second post, with that fake apology full of scarcely-veiled insults. My apologies.

I'm glad s/he's gone.

And thank you both for being such wonderful mods. It's such a pleasure to be a part of this community.

[personal profile] conuly 2005-04-27 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Judging from the comments I saw in the most recent comments page, I'd say most people commented appropriately. However, I'd ask that if you think you're troll-feeding, you don't and instead inform me or Jazzy.

[identity profile] sarrabellum.livejournal.com 2005-04-27 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
Clearly I didn't think I was troll-feeding at the time. I wouldn't have done it intentionally; that was sort of the thrust of my apology. I actually still don't think I was troll-baiting (especially since I thought that person was a legitimate member of the community, and thus *not* a troll) - but after the successive admin posts, I realized that it could have appeared that way. And that's what I was apologizing for.

:)

Regardless, it can't hurt to think twice of even thrice if someone like that pops up again. :)

[identity profile] ada-byron.livejournal.com 2005-04-27 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, thank you. This is the LAST place I expected to see such a post, and it's nice to know that we have mods that are dedicated to the community members and integrity. :)

[personal profile] conuly 2005-04-27 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
People here usually are nice, so no worries :)

Just curious...

[identity profile] ladyjbug.livejournal.com 2005-04-27 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
Hey...this might be a stupid question, but can you tell me what a Troll acutally is? Part of me is wondering because I come here a few times a week, look through all of the wonderful icons and perhaps save and credit/comment (nicely) as required. Are you a troll if you don't have the software to make icons of your own? All of my posts here are comments.

I missed the discussion before with the now banned user, and I'm glad that I did. But I'd sure like to know if just browsing is not okay in this community. I'd make icons for you to look through too if I had Photoshop or something.

I really like the icons in this community. Please keep up the good work!

Re: Just curious...

[identity profile] artfuldodger.livejournal.com 2005-04-27 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
A "troll" is someone who comes in purely to harass people, more or less. They'll post something inflammatory and sit back to watch the fun that arises from it when people get offended. There are slight variations between breeds of trolls (some reply back to people, others don't, for example), but that's the overall idea.

What that person said. I have never made an icon, and probably never will. Hence, I'd be foolish to ban people who just browse.
