Perdido Street Station by China Miéville
Dec. 9th, 2004 05:35 pmPalgolak is Miéville's god of knowledge who appears to his followers as a fat man (or a svelte vodyanoi) reading in the tub. Believing that everything known to them is known to their god, Palgolak's followers are "religiously charged to read voraciously. But their mission [is] only secondarily for the glory of Palgolak, and primarily for the glory of knowledge."
The dirigible was originally drawn as frontispiece for the third part of Perdido Street Station, Metamorphoses. It was published in Vector 213 (Sep./Oct. 2000).
