A few icons with Latin text. Two from Cat in the Hat (or as Latin says, "The hatted cat") and three from the Oxford Latin Course books. They're kind of silly, but fun. Enjoy!

Cattus Petasatus

1. 2.

Oxford Latin Course

These are rather silly, but I wanted to make some icons from the books and there are few of the cartoons that have short enough phrases. If there are any Oxford readers out there who want one of the other cartoons, let me know! :)

3. 4. 5.

If you take any, please comment here and credit in keywords. I greatly appreciate feedback. And please feel free to make requests. :)

Hope you enjoy!

Edit:

Forgive me. Here are the translations.

  1. See me! Watch me! Now praise my tricks!
  2. I see mother coming, now seeking (making for, heading for) our house!
  3. Argus is good.
  4. Argus and Fidus are bad
  5. The conspirators attacked Caesar from all sides.
Unfortunately, the Cat in the Hat ones make more sense and sound much better in Latin than they do in the English translation! Sorry I forgot to post these right off the bat! :)

But what do they say!?

From my knowledge of French, I think #3 is "Arugs is a gift." And #4 might be "Argus and Fidus are bad."

I thought it was "Argus is good"...

Bonus... I tought "good" was more like bene, as in benevolant, benefactor. In French "bon" can mean "gift," so I just connected those two... but now that I think about it, "bon" in French is "good," too (and more frequently). Oops.

Yay! Thanks. I guessed right for 3 and 4, but the rest had me stumped.

Latin students unite! I wish my Latin text books had had funny looking cartoons like that. I'm taking (and crediting) the Caesar one, because it's so comical, my Classics friends will get it :)

OXFORD READERS! I still have mine! Oh god, and it was the author's wife who did the illustrations, I believe, god they were so horrible and hilarious! Oh, many a latin class was spent making fun of them....ah, the memories.

Was using, my school has a three year for the Latin elective courses for high school, so grade 11 (last year) was my LAST YEAR of Latin for high school. We used the North American Fourth Edition Cambridge Latin Course texts (Unit 4 for the final year), with the story of Caecilius and his family from Pompeii. They are good (so far as I know) they just didn't have the amusing cartoons of Julius Caesar's assassination :D

Holy cow, Oxford Latin! I learned Latin out of these; I remember my class was so sad when the dog died before we got to book three. What terrible illustrations those were! Thank you for making the icons!
