But I'll make this brief. Inside the cut are a list of schools taken from DonorsChoose.org who need money for books, especially fannish books. If you have the cash, go for it. It's almost New Year's, time for charity!
I'm copying the ones from my own journal, where I just picked the ones that are cheapest to fulfill that I also liked the sound of. More projects relating to books can be found here and here and here.
This teacher needs tools to allow her first graders to take books home. Many of them do not have books at home.
This is a kindy teacher with the same problem.
Here is a kindy teacher who simply needs books.
A high school teacher who needs dictionaries.
A high school teacher whose students are only interested in manga, and who therefore needs more manga. (How can you resist?)
A high school teacher whose students need books on their level that they can relate to.
A seventh grade teacher whose students like Goosebumps books and who needs more.
Another teacher whose students are picky - and this is my favorite, because they love *my* favorite series by *my* favorite author, Hilari Bell!
A teacher who would like to bind the books her first graders write.
A teacher who needs books for the GSA
A teacher who needs a specific book.
This teacher needs money for books, including The City of Ember.
This teacher needs money for Eric Carle books.
This teacher needs money for graphic novels and comic books
Feel free to fill up comments about other book-related charitable causes... or even non-book related ones. 'tis the season and all that!
I've been reminded, the nice folks behind The Hunger Site have a plethora of other sites including The Literacy Site. It's free!
Also we have ProLiteracy and First Book. And how about the Pajama Program? Pajammy to the left! Pajammy to the right! Jamma jamma jamma jamma P! J!
