Shrek was based on a book, but I believe the two aren't alike at all.

They resemble each other only very vaguly. The book is hilarious though (check your local library).

Well, if we're going to be technical, the musical of Wicked is nothing at all like the book.

Still horribly bitter about it, too. I hate it when my favourite books are butchered!

But the icons are nice, and I am certainly not complaining about the presence of some non-bookish things. I like number sixteen especially..

I'm new here and I'm running the risk of winning the wrath of people here when I say this...but I liked the musical better than the book. I will candidly admit that I have never said that I've liked the on screen or stage version better than the book but I will say it here.

I haven't seen the musical, merely listened to the soundtrack but I've fallen in love. Yes, it goes in a far different direction than the book but I think I liked it better because it focuses very heavily on friendship and love, and less on the dark and dreary political upheaval that marks the book. Yes it's so very different than the book, but whomever I talk to seems to like them both equally or the musical even more. Perhaps it’s just my personality that does it for me, I’m a very friendship based person, but I truly love the musical and you should listen to some of the songs. “Defying Gravity” was on the Broadway DVD that had the …20 or 100 or something like that, best songs ever, along with the fact that it’s on the top 100 list for the iTunes 2004. Truly, you should listen to some of the songs. If you want, I can send you some if you give me your email I’ll send some or contact me through MSN by wheres_my_life@hotmail.com.
