I actually haven't read it. ^^; My dad has, though, and he loves it. It's set in the eighteenth century, and it's about the scientific revolution and things.
This is one of the best books I've ever read... it's the first in a trilogy about the late seventeenth century. The author normally writes cyberpunk, and by writing these books, he's sort of postulating that their time period (as one of great scientific and commercial innovation) is very similar to ours, and that we can understand our future by historical analogy to what came after them.
