Sep. 26th, 2005 10:26 amThanks to
ms_cucumber I have a few new icons. She linked me to a wonderful, wonderful website with the most amazing scans of old manuscripts. One of them was the awesome "Lindisfarne Gospels", an Anglo-Saxon manuscript produced in Northumbria during the late 7th or early 8th ecntury (!). Take a look at high quality scans of the manuscript here - and you'll know why I couldn't resist.

Date: 2005-09-26 08:43 am (UTC)My ancestors sacked that place quite thoroughly! OK, no, it wasn't a good thing, but what do you expect from vikings?
(Note: At the time the Holy Isle was part of the Kingdom Of Scotland).

Hmmm...
Well, in retrospect I would probably be a bit more careful about what to expect than King Harold Godwinson was, when he expected King Harald Hardrada to be content with "Six feet of ground or as much more as he needs, as he is taller than most men." (Thank you, Wikipedia, for that nice quote.) (Though in the end that was what Hardrada got, wasn't it? Not that this helped King Harold much, though...)< / joke >
