I don't know where you are, but in the US it's coming out November 17, the same day as Harry Potter. It's already out in Britain, and a lot of the people I've heard from who have seen it said they enjoyed it, enjoyed it more the second time, are planning to go back to see it again, etc. So apparently, they like it.

Emma and Pride and Prejudice are my two favorite Jane Austen novels! I think it's kind of funny how both have BBC and theatre-film versions, though my teacher insisted the BBC version of Emma was better than the Gwenyth Paltrow version. Which is true, I guess, even though he wouldn't show us the whole thing and what he did show us made Emma look a little bonkers.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm trying to be a know-it-all (or an arse). I'm an English major, and a slight Jane Austen dork, so I hear a lot of stuff that I tend to remember. Sorry. *proceeds to try and shut up*

Clueless is a modern adaption of Emma. I wonder if there's a movie loosely based on Pride and Prejudice like that?

I generally tend to like the BBC versions better than the theatre film versions. I'm waiting to see if that new P & P movie will be any good!

I love the miniseries too, but I heard this movie is breathtaking. I can hardly wait till November. If it's bad, I'll just bash it. But I've gotten some great pics for icons from it, lol!

These are really good! I *still* can't see what's-her-name as Lizzy, though, regardless of whatever it is critics say. And although I love the 1995 version as being the most authentic, true-to-the-book etc, I think the 1940 Greer Garson/Laurence Olivier version is probably the most fun to watch :)

Had to join when I saw your magnificent P&P icons! Took 73 and I *shall* credit. The new P&P version looks rubish I have to say, Kiera appears rather messy. And who else could be Darcy and Elizabeth?

I can't wait to see it, though I just saw the 1940's version last night and it made my head spin because it was just so... fast. As in Mr. Collins coming and saying, "My sympathies. You're daughter would have been better off dead, I am sure." (or something, I don't think it was a direct quote from the book; the movie was going too quickly to tell), and then Lydia and Wickham come up and go "We're married! Oh! Lady Catherine! What are you doing here?"

"I must speak to Elizabeth Bennet." They talk. Lady Catherine goes outside and chats to Darcy, who goes in and proposes...

... It was just fast. I've heard the new one will be better paced. There's an interesting conversation on IMDB, if you're interested. I just want to see it to see how they've done.
