Dudes!

[personal profile] conuly posting in [community profile] book_icons
I know I haven't been the most active maintainer in the world lately (I've been watching my toddler niece every day from six until five, I'm a little tired out. I'll catch up on everything once the baby is born and my sister goes on maternity leave, in another three weeks or so), but that doesn't mean I'm completely oblivious.

This community is for book icons. In a pinch, we'll also accept other book-related graphics.

It's not for random internet icons. It's not for movie or tv icons (except those based off of books, of course). Even if they're cool. Even if they're wonderful. If they're not book-related, they don't belong here.

If you really really really really want to show off that cool Serenity icon (good movie, good show, go watch), we offer the following deal: Post something book-related, and you can also post your non-related icon. Because we're nice like that.

Here's another rule, prominently posted in the community info: Don't post something and ask if it's breaking the rules. That's really annoying. And it's doubly annoying to post something and admit that you already know it's breaking the rules. It's beyond annoying. It's rude. Want that cool BtvS icon? Go ask about it in a BtvS community, one where you're supposed to ask for BtvS icons. Or, contact one of your favorite icon makers privately to ask about it - but be careful, some people do find that intrusive.

I'm not accepting discussion on this, other than the normal "you rock!" type, because - dudes. This is basic. Book. Icons. Some of you need to learn to color within the lines.

Edit: Guys? I love you all too. Seriously.

Just FYI: I encourage backseat modding. It makes my job easier. If somebody's breaking the rules, you're fully authorized to politely direct them to the rules in our wonderous FAQ and tell them to knock it off. If they do it before I see it, I don't have to make a ranting mod post.

Edit again: Okay, the most recent off-topic poster apologised in my journal. So I feel vaguely bad, but not really, because these rants always make me feel good. This is a reminder for everybody: Read the rules before you post. They're in the user info. I don't have time to remind everybody of things you should know already. I mean, I do, but I don't wanna, so it amounts to the same thing.

Thank you.

I so had to restrain myself from making snarky comments earlier.

I posted some American Girl doll icons a few days ago, and I honestly wasn't sure if they were acceptable or not. So, er, are they? They seemed pretty book related to me, but I wasn't sure about it...

OK, awesome! I'll remember that in the future, although I think most other possibilities are covered in the rules. Hee, there was just no rule about "dolls based on book series."

Agreed.

Don't post something and ask if it's breaking the rules.

You rock.

Quick question because I would really hate to be breaking any rule of this com, since it is so nice. Are Shakespeare icons okay. I posted some Much ado About Nothing icons from the movie here becasue someone suggested it to me.

Thanks for the update. You really do run this com so very well.

Sorry to be a bother, but in the spirit of things, I thought I should ask -quotes by writers on writing: okay or not okay?

Thanks!

I have a question. I was thinking about posting some Lord of the Rings icons here. The only problem is, they're not based off of any quotes or pictures from the books or movies; they're text-only, and snarkily point out some points where the movies deviated from the books. Would that be all right?
