Is this a good book? I tried to read the first in the series a few years ago, and was a bit bored, but maybe I should pick it up again. I love Tamora Pierce's stuff-- is this similiar? Or more like "Hero and the Crown"?

Much more like Tamora Pierce, but I think it's better. Then again, I'm a huge fan of court intrigue.
