Oh, thank you! In my first reading of the book it was the line 'If this is the Royal Music, no wonder the Kings of Karhide are all mad' that convinced me that I was going to love it. There are so many wonderful lines in there though, that I could probably make a thousand icon set and not be finished :)

That was exactly my experience, too! I have a copy with a really uninteresting cover, so I put off reading it for ages, and then that line came up and it got into gender queerness and I *knew* it was going to be one of my favourite books ever. :D
LOL! Great minds think alike :) And then of I fell in love with Estraven, partly because of the androgyny and partly because Therem Harth rem ir Estraven is just the greatest hero ever regardless of sex.
The first icon is from the cover of my edition, which is really not bad at all compared to the truly uninspiring cover it comes in nowardays. It's a wonder anyone still reads it, but I'm so glad I did :) Nice to meet a fellow fan!
Ooh yes, it's a must-read at least in my opinion. It ties for my top favourite book ever with Lord of the Rings - but it's gorgeously written and much easier to read.
I read LHD *years* ago so I think it's time for a re-read. The only problem is, my re-read pile is beginning to tower over the new-to-be-read pile. Woe is me!
