[identity profile] auryanne.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] book_icons
I drew these over the weekend and was asked to post them here :) They are icons of the house mascots from the Harry Potter books. Ravenclaw has two images depending on whether you want the book mascot (eagle) or movie one (raven). I've also included the blank bases if you want to put your own text on. Please credit [livejournal.com profile] auryanne if you take them! Enjoy :)

*referring to your icon* waitaminute, she actually did kill off Sirius (I stopped reading after book 4)? I'd heard rumors, but since none of the reviews/parodys that I saw mentioned it... bah, that's rotten.

Yeppers -- he's dead :( Killed by his Death Eater cousin in a fierce battle.

Why did you stop reading? Just lost interest?

Not originally intended to be an essay...

Well, it's not really as simple as lost interest, because truthfully I'm still interested...
...it was partially that she's taken these nice uncomplicated books that were a lot of fun to read, with many very engaging characters (damn it, Sirius!) and a well-thought-out overall plot, and tried to turn them into what is apparently supposed to resemble a Great Literary Work... and the subject matter just doesn't require slogging through that much gratuitous exposition. They were a good story which has been done many times before, and the experiencing of it in a new style and for a new audience is usually a very enjoyable experience...but then all of a sudden it had to be New and Impressive and Wordly, and she was hailed the world over for writing these wonderful new and original books! Ugh. Even that I probably could have dealt with (I'm certainly not scared of gratuitous exposition, and worst-case, I just skim over it :) )
But then...all of the hype hit, and I couldn't stand it anymore. It's quite literally gotten to the point where I can't bear to talk to half of my friends, because the only topic of conversation for the months leading up to last Friday has been Harry Potter...it's like everyone's brain has just shut down, I suppose I'm sort of happy that seemingly every single literate person on the face of the earth has an insta-topic of conversation, but I just can't stand it.

Please don't misunderstand - this isn't meant to be an attack on those that do still enjoy the books, movies, etc - really it's not! I enjoyed them thoroughly, and (clearly) still care about the characters and the story...if I didn't, I don't think I'd be this upset about what it appears to me they've become =/

I also think I might have needed to rant a bit...and for that, I thank you :)

(also, your icon? Fantastic :D)

You make some good points :) I like them, myself, but I certainly don't fault those who don't! It's all a matter of what floats your boat :)
Glad I could help you rant! ;) I'm always good for lending an ear :)

Thanks! I like your icon, too! :)

You also get the most cheers ever :) Not only do your icons extend to Duck Hunt, but I spy User Friendly/Star Wars, MST3K, the Blues Brothers, A Clockwork Orange and a Matrix spoof that just made me laugh out loud *grin*

Your icon is so awesome! I was yelling at one of those Christian goodie-goodies that they've littered our school with the other day. She claimed that the paperback HP&SS I had in my hand was a devil book and that I shouldn't read such garbage. I was "going to Hell" for my beliefs in such. Like I could care... Harry's hott!
