o_O !! it's the Golden Compass/ Subtle Knife/ Amber Spyglass trilogy by Philip Pullman and you should totally go read them NOW. they're classics (well...)!
personally i'm more a fan of the Ruby in the Smoke/ Shadow in the North/ Tiger in the Well set, but still...

My Sister read Ruby in the Smoke was upon a time ago... I think.. I don't remember how she liked it.

Yep. Or a glowing-city-in-the-aurora-borealis-majiggy on the older cover. Ruby in the Smoke is entirely unrelated except for being by the same guy (although I spose the're both set in variants of England with female leads), but I'm a sucker for anything even remotely chick-flick/lit-y. Go Sally Lockhart!

Prooooooooooobably. At the library I think they're on the SF shelves instead of YSF/YFIC, but at the bookstore... if it's not in JUV, it'll probably be in SF.
