1. You're allowed to make icon requests. If the books you want icons of haven't been posted, you can say "Hey, I'd really like an icon based on Green Eggs and Ham" or "Hey, could you do an icon with a skull and the words 'You can take my book away when you pry it from my cold dead hands' on it?" (these aren't suggestions, just random). Similarly, if there's an author or a book you want posted in the interests, feel free to ask for it.
2. I do want people not to insult other people's reading material. If you don't like an icon because of the icon, you can post that CONSTRUCTIVELY (something like "this was a good icon, but I don't like the colors" or "I like the font you used, it's really cool/creates a good effect, but that's not the picture/quote I would have chosen" works well). If you don't know what a book or author is, you can ask. But please don't say "I would prefer real literature" or "God, you like that book? I can't make an icon of that, it's stupid!" (not that anybody here would do that, but I don't know most of you, so I'm trying to cover all my bases here). We all have different ideas of what constitutes real literature, and different tastes in reading material. Rather than wait for somebody to post what you like, just ask for it.
On that note. Has anybody read "A Matter of Profit" by Hilari Bell? I'm currently in love with that book, and would adore an icon made either 1. of the cover, either hardcover or paperback or 2. if anybody loves me/it enough to do fanart, of a T'chin.
Oh, and a less important thing. When posting icons, if you could post the author and/or title of the book, that'd be helpful. Character names help if you've read the book, but I hope some of us (me) will expand our reading, and that's easier if we know what books other people like enough to icon out of.

Date: 2004-02-23 05:17 am (UTC)You had to deal with your first bit of nasty far, far sooner than lots of people (my GO community went eight or nine months without an issue), and you handled it superbly.
Never heard of that book - what's it about?

Date: 2004-02-23 01:32 pm (UTC)It could've been better, admittedly, but I very much admire the author's way of explaining the cultures. In most books, when they have to explain something that the reader will be unfamiliar with, they do that. She doesn't, she just lets you absorb it, because the people she's writing about find it all normal, of course. I love it.
