We can ignore all the potential for spoilers and allow people to post as they please, deleting spoileriffic posts after the fact.
We can put this community on moderation now or in a few weeks, and thus prevent spoileriffic posts from being posted at all (I hope).
We can... no, that's about it.
Talk about it, give it some thought, I'll have a poll up in a little bit about what we should do.
(I would suggest, whatever method we choose to deal with spoilers/trolls about Deathly Hallows in this comm, if you're very serious about not being spoiled, you just remove various communities from your Friends List now and until you've read the book. Nothing is going to be foolproof.)

Date: 2007-07-06 05:51 pm (UTC)I should hope our standard users here are smart and courteous enough not to gratuitiously spoil everyone, I'm just concerned about trolls. So far, we've been largely drama-free (or at least, I haven't heard of any drama), and I'd like to keep it that way.

Date: 2007-07-06 05:51 pm (UTC)Putting the comm on moderation would be safer, but in either case, the maintainer still runs the risk of being spoiled should they even look in the moderation queue before they've finished reading. Then again, as major news outlets have proven again and again, you run the risk of being spoiled simply by watching the news, or being on the internet.
(Which is to say, I'm fine with whichever method gets chosen; I'll be taking my own precautions, regardless.)

Date: 2007-07-06 05:55 pm (UTC)Moderation probably is the only safe method, but since we seem to have skipped drama last book, I'm hoping everybody will decide to take a chance. It's just such a hassle, really :P

Date: 2007-07-06 06:13 pm (UTC)The hype's even bigger this time, since it's the last book, and trolling is even more likely. Moderated posting is a good idea, in my view, at least until the book actually is out.

Date: 2007-07-06 06:23 pm (UTC)I 'm in favour of moderation, for as short a time as can be considered sensible.
