We can ignore all the potential for spoilers and allow people to post as they please, deleting spoileriffic posts after the fact.

We can put this community on moderation now or in a few weeks, and thus prevent spoileriffic posts from being posted at all (I hope).

We can... no, that's about it.

Talk about it, give it some thought, I'll have a poll up in a little bit about what we should do.

(I would suggest, whatever method we choose to deal with spoilers/trolls about Deathly Hallows in this comm, if you're very serious about not being spoiled, you just remove various communities from your Friends List now and until you've read the book. Nothing is going to be foolproof.)

...Book 7?

That was my initial response. I assume it's a Harry Potter reference.

If spoiler posts are labeled Book 7 in the subject and cut-tagged, I would think it would be fine. Moderating posts is probably the only way to ensure it but this is a community of literate folks. I'd hope we could all follow directions.

For what it's worth - I don't give three figs about the new Potter book but I'd be willing to help moderate the queue if it's going to prove to be a pain in the balls. :)

Or only read http://exampleusername.livejournal.com/friends?show=P - or, if you don't trust everyone with a personal journal account on your friends list, setting up a Default View filter with only those you do trust ...

Putting the comm on moderation would be safer, but in either case, the maintainer still runs the risk of being spoiled should they even look in the moderation queue before they've finished reading. Then again, as major news outlets have proven again and again, you run the risk of being spoiled simply by watching the news, or being on the internet.

(Which is to say, I'm fine with whichever method gets chosen; I'll be taking my own precautions, regardless.)

I agree with strangestgirl. As long as the icons are under a cut that says SPOILERS or the post is labeled in some way, I'm fine with there not being any moderated posts.

I'm so excited!

I'd be fine with labeling things "Book 7" and using a cut, as someone else suggested. I'll probably be avoiding the internet until I'm done reading it, so I don't have that much of a stake in it, though.

I'm fine with there not being any moderated posts. I'm vaguely bothered about spoilers, but I tend to flick the flist anyway, so I'll probably just take the comm off until I've read Book Seven.

The night before the last book came out, a lot of communities that had nothing to do with Harry Potter had trolls posting uncut spoilers. Real spoilers--someone had got hold of a copy early and taken a photo of a crucial page with a cell phone.

The hype's even bigger this time, since it's the last book, and trolling is even more likely. Moderated posting is a good idea, in my view, at least until the book actually is out.

I think an LJ cut if there are spoilers should be good, I think it's fair.

People really worried about spoilers might prefer to block all images (On livejournal, or in general) - I believe both firefox and opera browsers have such an option and are free to download.

I 'm in favour of moderation, for as short a time as can be considered sensible.

I'm not looking at the internet, watching t.v., or going outside until I finish the book. It's sick, I know. But I had it spoiled for me last time and this is my last chance.

All I know is let us know your decision very soon because I'll leave the community if I have to. I might seem a bit too obsessed but this is the LAST book, I do NOT want to be spoiled. Really I'm going to avoid LJ for days before the release I think.. if I'm spoiled I'll be quite pissed.

I doubt I'm going online until I'm done with the book, so it shouldn't be an issue for me.
