Now, to be clear, I'm less worried about accidental spoilers than about deliberate trolling. Trolls are unlikely to read our spoiler policy, after all. (I suggest that the rest of you do, thanks.)

Trolls are most likely to be active in the few days following the release of the book - not much point stirring drama when everybody knows everything already, right?

[Poll #1016566]

I will not necessarily do the majority just because it's the majority. If, say, 52% of this comm votes for no moderation, and the other 48% wants moderated posting - I'll most likely err on the side of caution.

I'll check that poll in a day or so.

The poll only seems to be open to people who have been friended by the community, not to everyone who has the community friended.

It just occurred to me- you could perhaps put a hold on membership until the book's been out a few weeks. If non-members can't post, that would cut down the trolling.

*cough*

*reads whole poll*

*cough*

;)

I'd still go with holding membership longer than a few days if that becomes an option...

This sounds like a good idea, I was planning to take communities off my list until I was done with the book, but this works better...

Yes, that is always the best option. And, I usually read the HP in one marathon reading session so I wouldn't be away from Lj long, lol. :D

I won't be purusing until after I read the book, but I definitely think moderation is a good idea. I'm in Canada now getting my last book from the US (I wanted a matching cover to the rest of the set!) and definitely won't be getting my hands on it til around August. So one less spoiler worry would be great!

Just pointing out that last time, the big spoiler with scanned pages came before the book's release and not after, if that influences anyone's choice :)

And since you guys probably don't know this - I'm not nearly as active as Connie in here - I'm the second maintainer for this comm, so I'm willing to help out with moderation and suchlike while I'm around.

Wonderful spoiler policy, but I'm disappointed in the examples. ;) Winter of Fire is an AWESOME book, and I think I would have been furious to have known that information beforehand (even if it is way obvious...wasn't to me 9 years ago when I read it ^_^).

Not nearly so much as the more popular books...but you have to consider that this is a Book Icon community. Lots of people who love their reading out there, and if they've been reccomended a good book, are likely to go out there and read it. ;)

Now, an example like The Neverending Story would be something a little better.... =D "It ends with the phrase "But that's another story." Not too much of a spoiler there, but I think it would get the point across just as well.

Or you can be cheeky and use "It ends with a period." ;) Or use a Biblical or mythological example. Dunno... I just think it's silly to use a major, major spoiler for a book as an example in something that is trying to keep away spoilers.

The irony!! The irony!!

Thanks, for planning ahead and just kind of generally. I like this comm and thought I'd take this opportunity to show some gratitude :)

Well, I won't get out of being spoiled either way. I only get the book in August, due to Amazon delivery speed and low cash >.<

But it's nice to see mods make an effort to keep their members unspoiled :)
