I have a question... help me?

I make icons with MSpaint. It's all I've got.

How do you get text on the icons without opening up little text-box things? You know, where you actually pick "text"?

How do you get the font right on to the icon?

Any help would be great, thanks...

I use paint too. grrr. And sadly cannot help, although if you want iconmaking software kinda for free, computer magazines often have free trials with photoshop, etc.

I'm not sure if there IS a way to get text without using a text box, unfortunately.

To get the font right, when you have the text box open, go to "View" and click "Text Toolbar". It'll give you a box that lets you change fonts.

I don't know why the computer at the library, which seems to have MS paint, lets me do this, but it gives you a selector tool to outline an area of the image and type in the text.

You can leave it in a white area, set the background transparent, and move it around, zoom in and play with it, rearrange letter & words, add various pixels to it. You can outline it with the regular selector tool and float it over to the image.

Try downloading the image as a bitmap, which is the only type of image I can use here:

Also, try asking over at [livejournal.com profile] icon_tutorial. They regularly take questions like this.

I'd suggest downloading GIMP. It's free, and people say that it's as good as PSP or photoshop, though I can't say if there's truth to that or not as I've never used it. I have much scorn for paint, and think that everyone should move away from it as quickly as possible. But then, I am addicted to fancy programs, so I'm a bit biased.
