Man, that book used to freak me out. Especially this story...it might have been called "The Werewolf." It was about this wolf and it had no footprints and it ripped a guy's throat out. There was this awful picture of the wolf. I hated even looking at it!

I'm not gonna lie- #18 scared me so badly as a kid that I had to tape those pages together. Now I think they're great, if not horribly creepy. :D

Sex,I remember how those used to scare me as a child. Harold (#17) scared me shitless, but the pet dog (#13) made me afraid of animals.

Those things are way too scary for children. But the pictures are just gruesome. Good icons, by the way, now that I've ranted ;)

And yes, I use 'sex' as an expletive.

You rock. Much like the rest of the people posting comments, the pictures freaked the hell out of me when I was younger, but they were still very awesome. I just wish I could draw like that.

Wow. Just wow. I'm too old to have read them as a kid (maybe a good thing!), but they are seriously, wondrously frightening. Is Alvin Schwartz the illustrator as well as the author?

Saaaaweet! Those books were responsible for every nightmare I had as a child. The decomposing ghost in (I think it's called) "The Haunted House" who's image takes up the entire page scared the shit out of me as a kid. Couldn't even read the story because I'd have to look at the picture.

Sadly, now I want to go and find that book on amazon, even knowing full well that if I were to wake up in the middle of the night and see the cover that I would probably pee my pants.

It's probably a good thing that you couldn't find a picture to turn into an icon of that lady. You'd probably have a few people weeping uncontrollably. *shiver*

I took almost all of them except for the Harold one...
those books gave me the shits when I was little, and Harold still scares me. The books still aren't allowed near the 'good' books on my bookshelves.
