*I fixed the no. 8 colored DT icon from two posts ago. It wasn't fully cropped, and was outlayed with a white border.
*I also realized that the icons are slightly big in bmp and jpg formats. I will attempt to cut down on their size and re-post. (This is due to size incompatibility issues with some programs)

Beyond the icon update information, I had a thought. Everyone here reads books, so perhaps you can help me.

I remember reading 2 books when I was a child, but I have forgotten their names and authors. No one I know personally seems to know, so I'll give you a shot at it. Fabulous prizes for anyone that can help me out (maybe).

The first one is about a girl who runs away from her town (when she is told she has to marry this prince, I think) and she takes a brass gnome with her. She runs into the woods, into a cottage and falls into a pond in the middle of the cottage. She comes out in a different cottage, and has to walk up a mountain but there are spikes/crags in the way. She starts crying and the tears dissolve the rocks. She gets to the top of the mountain, where patchwork colors of snow are. Each colored square has a different effect. Yellow=glue, red=burning, etc.

The second books is about these two kids who start reading a book, and some kind of lizard jumps out of it and they follow it on a fantastical voyage through the sewers, or somesuch. (I remember little about this book. Something about a firebrand though...)

I doubt it's the same book -- but have you read Inkheart by Cornelia Funke? It's another "book comes to life" book.

It is not The Neverending Story. I distinctly remember something about a "firebrand" which was (I think) a kind of lizard that ate books and breathed fire. But the characters didn't want it to breathe fire on the books. Maybe there was something about an ice cream cart too...? I think I'm getting that confused with another book though.

It can't be Inkheart, though the title bears checking out.

You have to remember, I read it almost 10-12 years ago, so the book had to have been published in the 80's. Early 90's at the very least.

It's not too off-topic - you can talk about whatever you want once you've mentioned icons :) But if you're worried, and wanna be nice, add an icon request to the end: blah, blah, blah, gee, do you know what these books are, can you make icons of them? THANKS!

I think nostalgia_books was created at least partially for that purpose. It's not very active, but if you post a request in there, people generally do try to help out.

It wasn't called Starchild and Witchfire was it? I vaguely remember reading that book about a million years ago. Wow, that's really annoying! If its not, has anyone read that?

That could very well be it. I tried looking it up online, but the only reviews I got were more vague than my description of the book itself. If you remember the lizard being labeled as a firebrand, then I'm willing to give you credit, otherwise, it shall have to wait until my trip to the library.

But it does seem familiar.
